Nissan Leaf 2 2018-2019: Specification, Price, Speed

The presentation of the electric car second-gen Nissan Leaf 2 2018-2019 took place simultaneously in Japan and the US in early September 2017, and the European premiere of the new model will occur in the middle of the month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The company kept its word, and radically changed the exterior of the new 2018 Nissan Leaf 2, compared to its predecessor. If the latter has a not very expressive design with smooth body contours, now they have been replaced by sharp edges. Additionally, a lot of interesting solutions have been implemented in the exterior design.

For example, in the new body the 2018 Nissan Leaf 2 received a stub with imitation of the grille, a two-tone body color, the effect of a hovering roof, stylish zigzag taillights, a simulated diffuser in the rear bumper, and also fashionable wheel disks. In general, the electric car looks like a slightly enlarged version of the Micra 5.

The cabin of the electric car doesn’t offer anything especially remarkable, except for an unusual gear selector on the dashboard. However, the same is installed on the first-gen Leaf. The instrumental panel took a more traditional form with an analog speedometer on the right and an LCD display to show the rest of the information to its left.

As a result, the electric hatchback accelerates to 100 km/h for 8.0 seconds, while the maximum speed, is limited at 144 km/h as before. Initially for the Nissan Leaf II should have featured a 60 kWh battery, but as it has become recently known it will emerge in 2018.

The mileage varies greatly, depending on the measurement technique. The most optimistic cycle JC08 (Japanese) promises up to 400 km, while the European NEDC claims 378, but the most realistic cycle is probably the American EPA, which promises no more than 242 kilometers. With a more capacious battery, the mileage should increase to 320 km.

The recharging time depends on the type of outlet (AC or DC) and the permissible load, so when connecting the Leaf to the home supply network, it might take from 8 to 16 hours to fully charge the batteries. However, a special fast charging station enables car owners to replenish the battery capacity by 80% in just 40 minutes.

Besides this, the new 2018 Nissan Leaf 2 boasts V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology, providing the ability to provide power supply for a cottage in the event of a power outage. Another interesting feature of the car is the implementation of the so-called e-Pedal technology.

The activation of this function enables to slow down the electric car to a complete stop without using the brake pedal. One just needs to release the accelerator to let the vehicle automatically start losing its course. The company ascertains that it would be enough in 90% of road situations, and only in the remaining ten the driver should utilize the brake pedal.
